As of July 2021, 31 states (plus the Commune of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands) allowed voters to bespeak their partisan affiliations on voter registration forms and reported total registration numbers publicly. The remaining xix states either did not ask voters to point partisan affiliation on their registration forms or did non publicly study those totals, according to analysis done by Ballotpedia.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • As of July 2021, 49.3 meg registered voters identified themselves every bit Democrats. Both candidates received a larger pct of votes than the percentage of their respective party's registered voters. Independent and third-political party voters made up 31.2% of all registered voters in these states, while independent and 3rd-political party presidential candidates received ane.nine% of the vote.
